In the first part of our lesson today we talked about the book Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The book was published (יצא לאור) exactly 131 years ago this month, in the 19th century. The author (סופר) of the book is Robert Louis Stevenson, who wrote another well known book - "Treasure Island" (אי המטמון).
We read the book introduction and learned the names of 3 characters (דמויות) in the book: Dr. Jekyll, Mr. Hyde and Mr. Utterson. We also understood there was a murder and the Mr. Hyde is probably the murderer.
We read the first chapter (פרק) of the book and learned the story is happening in London. It sounds like a mystery book. We will read the second chapter on Wednesday.
In the second part of our lesson today we went over the different sentences in the Present Progressive and solved online exercises to better understand the sentence structure.
We repeated positive sentences, negative sentences, and the 3 different question types.
We repeated the spelling rules for adding "ing":
1) CVC- When a verb ends with a consonant-vowel-consonant and we put STRESS (דגש) on this sound in speech, we double the last consonant. Then we add ing.

But if we don't put STRESS on this sound in speech (אם לא מדגישים את ההברה האחרונה), then we simply add ing. For example:

2) "e": When a verb ends with the letter e, we first remove it, and then add ing.

3) "ie": When a verb ends with the letters "ie" we change them into y and add ing.
