Date: 2/11 -W | Lesson title: Posters & Decorations Test Preparation
Today we worked in teams. Each team got a test topic to present in a visual way, create a poster or decoration, so that all the students in the class could repeat these topics and master (לשלוט) them by the test.
Teams that didn't finish their work in class can complete their posters by Sunday.
You can post photos from today's class on this page (just click "edit" and add your photos). I am sending the teams' photos to the team - you should decide as a team if you want to post your photos on the page. Your homework is to give feedback to each other on your work. Go to the homework page to read the instructions.
6/11-S | Test prep
We had a shorter than usual class as the 3rd period started late and the 4th period was canceled and you has a lecture by an author.
This means most of the test preparations you will do on your own.
We went over the topics that will be in the test.
We repeated what is the meaning of each topic.
I explained how you can prepare yourself for each topic:
1) Vocabulary - translate, write sentences with the words, look for the words in sentences in the text book and translate the complete sentence
(להעתיק את המילים למחברת, לתרגם אותן, לחבר משפטים עם המילים, למצוא את המילים במשפטים בספר הלימוד ולתרגם את המשפטים בשלמותם)
2) Noun-Verb-Adjective - Take the words from the vocabulary list ("new words") on page 32 and put them in a table - list all the nouns in one column, the verbs in the second column, and the adjectives in the 3rd column.
3) SVO - Subject-Verb-Object - this is how we build sentences in English.
ככה בונים משפט באנגלית Take the new words from the columns in the table and build new and meaningful (בעלי משמעות) sentences using the "SVO" model. Remember that adjectives (תואר, תארים) will always be placed before nouns.
4) Pronouns - treat the pronouns like the new words. Take the sentences you built before and see how can you replace some nouns with pronouns. We repeated the difference between "this is my book" and "this book is mine" ( שייכות: זה הספר שלי / תיאור: הספר הזה הוא שלי).
5) To Be (positive+negative, present simple), to have (positive, present simple) - this is previous knowledge. (זה ידע מוקדם שצריך לחזור עליו) I suggested you do the work pages I gave you, write sentences or use the interactive practice links I gave you.
6) UNSEEN - Don't forget your dictionary: The best way to prepare for an unseen is to do one. I suggested this on Wednesday: read pages 30-31 in the text book and answer the questions on page 30. If you need help with the reading you can use the audio file (the pages being read to you) here: http://www.ecb.co.il/Page.aspx?PageID=1749
9/11 - W | Test
Today we had the test for unit 1.
13/11 - S | Reading & Listening comprehension
We started Unit 2 in "Way To Go" today. The unit is called "aiming high" - we discussed the meaning of this expression (ביטוי) and found that it can be translated verbally " לכוון גבוה" but also mean " לשאוף גבוה".
We met the word "comprehension" הבנה and learned the verb "comprehend" להבין.
We practiced reading comprehension in class: we read page 37 and filled out the table on page 36-C plus more questions. Each of you should complete the classwork at home. Click this link to get the page. The answers that are based on the page 37 are already there. Please write down on which line this information is given. This exercise is very important for the next unseen on your test. We also discussed the additional question "what is your opinion" to understand the big difference between an opinion and a fact is that there's no right or wrong about opinion. It's personal, and not a fact that can be proved.
We continued to listen to the interview with Derrick Sharp from Maccabi Tel Aviv. We learned the word interview - ראיון, שאלות ותשובות.
We answered the questions on page 40 A and then continued to practice numbers in thousands (אלפים) - reading the tip on page 40 B.
16/11 - W | Introduction to grammar and present tenses
We opened our class today with a discussion about homework. Your homework is meant to help you learn. Anyone who feels they don't need all exercises can do less, but remember this is the basis for the success in the next test. Also, there is going to be a mini game testing you about homework assignments sometimes at the beginning of our lessons. So make sure if you don't do all the exercises you have the knowledge required to pass.
We went over the different parts of the wiki to make sure everyone knows where to find the homework or the class summary (this page). We also looked at the Students' pages. You are invited to add kind and pleasant comments to your classmates pages.
We read page 41 and 43 and worked on page 42 in the text book.
We met new words before starting the next topic: the grammar we are going to learn in unit 2 is Present Simple and Present Progressive.
We met the word: tense (זמן) and tenses (זמנים).
We learned that in English, like in Hebrew the main tenses are Past עבר, Present הווה, Future עתיד. But in each of those there are different types סוגים (or aspects- נקודות מבט ).
Simple is always the basic tense פשוט זה תמיד הזמן הבסיסי
Progressive is different in each tense. Present progressive means פעולה המתרחשת ממש עכשיו. Present simple הווה פשוט מה שקורה בהווה בדרך כלל, לעיתים קרובות, באופן קבוע וכ
To do the homework pages (WB 54-55) you must read pages 45-47 in the text book.
כדי לעשות את שיעורי הבית בחוברת העבודה תצטרכו לעבור ולקרוא את העמודים בספר העבודה עמודים 45-47
23/11 - W | Present Simple
Today we talked about Present Simple, and how it is different from Present Progressive. (We also learned that Present Progressive is sometimes called Present Continuous but they are really the same).
We learned that present simple refers to actions that happen regularly (באופן שגרתי). We wrote in our notebooks (I will check your notebooks soon) TIME EXPRESSIONS (ביטויי זמן) that tell us that in this sentence we have to use present simple. For example: usually, weekly, yearly, monthly, daily, every day/week/month etc (וכ), sometimes, often, frequently, rarely... Think about more time expressions to put in your notebooks. Look for them in your books.
We gave an example to the difference between present simple and present progressive with the following sentences:
1-I walk to school every day.
2-I am walking to school now.
Remember? What can you be doing when you say each of these sentences?
When you say sentence number 2 - you are walking. This is present continuous.
When you say sentence number 1 you can be having coffee with your friend in the mall....This is present simple. We went over the interviews on page 43 and explained why present simple is used there.
We talked about the structure (מבנה) of the sentence (משפט) in present simple. Please repeat it - page 45.

- You were asked to copy to your notebooks the rule of third person singular - גוף שלישי יחיד and to copy to your notebook the structure מבנה of a sentence in present simple - positive, negative and question.
Each student or pair of students is required to create an online presentation, comic, graphics, cartoon, slide - or whatever you can create online (מה שאתם יכולים ליצור אונליין) - to demonstrate להדגים and explain להסביר the structure of present simple sentences. Feel free (הרגישו חופשיים) to add more creative presentation tools. 30/11 - W | Present Simple
Today in class we repeated (חזרנו) the rules of present simple sentence structure מבנה משפט) in affirmative (חיוב) negative (שלילה) and questions (שאלה).
We checked (בדקנו) how well we do our homework (כמה טוב הכנו שיעורים) by doing a worksheet (דף עבודה) in class. Here is the worksheet:
You are invited to try it again at home. אתם מוזמנים לעשות אותו שוב בבית ולבדוק אם הצלחתם ללמוד
If you have questions or things you want to repeat in class - make note of your questions
